Willis & Machnik Financial Services Wins 2012 Small Business Person of the Year

Over 500 business and community leaders attended the 104th Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting at the Jackson Community College Potter Center in January. 12 awards were presented that night by the Chamber and the Jackson Citizen Patriot for service to the community, entrepreneurial vision and for successful business and community leadership by women. Pat & Dan were extremely honored and humbled to be the recipients of the premier award of the evening.

The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Small Business Person of the Year award was established in 1997. The recipient of the award is chosen with great care and a detailed process which includes a special financial review and a review of Federal Small Business Administration guidelines on innovation, sales and workforce growth, challenges and successes, and overall contribution to the community.

“Willis & Machnik are a true corporate citizen,” said Mindy Bradish-Orta, President of the Chamber. “We are thrilled that they are the recipients of this year’s award and we are proud to represent them as Chamber members.”

Pat’s acceptance speech focused on the history of the firm and the long path she has taken to success. “Who would have guessed when in 1983 I made a decision to change careers from a middle school educator and become an advisor that in 2012 our financial services firm would be honored as the Small Business Person of the Year?” she said. “Anyone that owns and operates their own business will tell you, it isn’t easy and takes you to understand that it’s greater than you. A successful business person recognizes that they cannot be all things and must surround themselves with people with the knowledge and experience they lack – and most importantly you have to listen.”

Dan thanked many in the audience for their trust, confidence and mentorship and talked about the tremendous strides the firm has taken in the past seven years and focused on the future. “Although this award is truly a culmination of a great history for our firm, it in no way makes us comfortable with where we are. We will continue to drive forward with innovation…surrounding ourselves with the people, tools and infrastructure to best deliver the services that our clients value.”

Pat & Dan were pleased to share this evening with clients, colleagues and friends. “Without you, none of this is possible,” Dan said.

“Imagine What’s Possible.” That was the message given by Detroit Pistons Coach of Training and Development Steve Moreland at the first ever Hall of Fame Event hosted by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce.

And in living these values, what a community/team/business we can be!

Pat and Dan were truly honored to be the Title Sponsor at the inaugural event and even more honored to be joined by clients and friends who also took pleasure in the message Coach Steve imparted.

Dan Machnik Earns Certified Income SpecialistTM Designation

June 3, 2010 – The Institute of Business & Finance (IBF) recently awarded Daniel M. Machnik with the only nationally recognized retirement designation, CISTM(Certified Income SpecialistTM). This graduate-level designation is conferred upon candidates who complete a one-year educational program focusing on fixed-income instruments, retirement and financial planning, taxes, Medicare, withdrawal plans, stretch IRAs, and reverse mortgages.

CISTM designation requires mastery of Social Security and its programs, balanced growth, cash equivalents, fixing any income shortfall, home health care, real estate, surviving a bear market, plus accumulation and distribution concerns. According to IBF, “Members of the financial services community are taught how to help their clients accumulate assets. What has always been missing is comprehensive and unbiased information as to how to turn assets into a stream of reliable income. The CISTM program addresses these issues and provides the answers.”

The candidate must pass three comprehensive exams and a written case study as well as adhere to the IBF Code of Ethics and IBF Standards of Practice as well as fulfill annual continuing education requirements. The CISTM designation is designed for brokers and advisors who have clients that are or will be seeking current income.
